Storm In A Teacup
November 2010

Well, I've got about 12 people coming over for dinner tomorrow, in a room where we're lucky to squeeze 8. There's no turkey because it was £44, so we're having rotisserie chickens plus a lot of side dishes and hopefully a hell of a lot of alcohol. I think it's going to go great.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Here's my little adventure from Spain's match against Scotland last night.

Te quiero EspanaCollapse )

So my camera went a little crazy too, and the photos didn't come out well at all. It didn't want to zoom. Or be in focus. But here are some of the better or at least not bad ones.

I finally went to  Liverpool for the first time this weekend. It was the only major city in the North I had yet to visit. I always meant to go when I was living in Sheffield but never made it. I only had 2 days so I had to budget my time, which obviously meant narrowing it down to The Beatles and the football. I saw the houses where George and Ringo were born as well as the houses that John and Paul lived in, and Penny Lane, and Strawberry Fields! It was amazing!!! I think I probably skipped around all the streets I was so happy to be there.

We also passed Fernando Torres' house and Dirk Kuyt's. NGL, that was only very marginally less exciting than the houses belonging to The Beatles.

The match... well, the match. I don't know how something could be that depressing and that exciting all at once, but it was. It was unbelievable to be at Anfield, and I had a great seat. But Jesus Christ were they a mess. Nando had to come off after something ridiculous like 9 minutes and in general they played like they were all just so demoralized. It's so upsetting. I tried to focus on the fact that I was just grateful to be there and of course I'm happy I was, but it's hard to watch what's happening with this team.

I didn't take too many photos because I didn't want to experience it through a camera lens, but I did want some - those are here
And a few of my favorites

So it's 2am. And where am I? Not on a flight to Scotland, that's where.

My flight from Florida got rerouted because of weather, so we had to stop in Baltimore - even though we were already flying over Newark when they rerouted us. We didn't get into Newark until nearly midnight. My flight from Florida had left at 6 - that's right, six hours to get from Florida to New Jersey. At customer service they said the flight to Edinburgh was being delayed because so many flights had gotten in late because of the weather. So I rushed to the other terminal where when I got there the woman looked at me and said really nastily that the flight was closed. Uh except the doors were still open so I said that I'd been told they were holding the flight for passengers who'd had flight problems. And she goes "I have to go close the doors now." WTF?!? And when she gets back I explained what happened and she says "well other people from your flight made this connection." Like it was my fault and not say, because they happened to be at the front of the line at customer service and I was at the end of it. And then she tells me that 1. the airline can't do anything for me regarding a hotel because weather delays aren't the airlines fault (oh, and it's mine?) and 2. that she can't do anything about helping me book a new flight. All this while not even having the decency to look at me while she's being a rude little bitch.

So there's no flight until tomorrow at 8pm, and now I'm in a shitty Travelodge in Newark and I'm probably going to get eaten by a giant roach.

This is also the second time in a row I've used Continental and had someone who is supposed to be in customer service be really rude to me. So yeah, fuck Continental. I honestly can't believe I didn't fly Virgin just because of a slight cost difference. Once on Virgin, the in flight entertainment system wasn't working, and they gave us all free miles. But apparently on Continental it's "we'll fuck you over completely, and then just in case you weren't pissed enough already, we're total cunts to you on top of it."

It's a miracle I haven't punched anybody yet.

So. I guess I'm officially not a New Yorker. I mean, I'll always be a New Yorker - it's part of who I am - but it's not where I live anymore. This past week back was great. Even though I hadn't been away that long it still felt like coming home. It was a very good last week.

Last week in NYCCollapse )

It's so weird not knowing when I'll be back in New York again, or where I'll end up living once school is over. But now that my visa is all taken care of, I'm looking forward to just spending the next few weeks getting ready to go!

(This photo, it is not cooperating with me and refuses to be made larger. It wants to be appreciated for its mind, and not its smokin' fit as fuck body.)

Good God man, you will be the end of me

My massive packing adventure has been turning up a bunch of things that I don't need anymore, or that I'm not attached enough to to schlep them along. But just because I'm not bringing them with me doesn't mean they should find themselves homeless! I know a bunch of you have also either recently moved or are looking to move soon, and even if you're not moving, I bet you have stuff that you don't want anymore, but someone else might. So I was thinking of trying to arrange a swap meet/yard sale (not in my yard of course - it is way too far to get to). I wanted to check out who might be interested and if it seems like something people want to do, then we could hammer out the details.

Just so you have an idea of what I was thinking, I figured we could pre-agree on price values (ie: all books $1, all clothing items $5 - something like that) and then you could either swap and barter, or if a swap doesn't work, you could pay for an item you wanted. So you'd hopefully walk away with something you really want and/or a little bit of cash. I was also thinking that maybe if we decide we're feeling generous we could all agree to pool the money and give it to an agreed upon charity. Plus, maybe we could find charities who'd like to have whatever stuff we're unable to get rid of. I know a lot of places only like to take stuff if there is a large amount of it.

Interest? Thoughts?

CBS freakin' fired AJ Cook from Criminal Minds, and they're reducing Paget Brewster's role so she won't be in all the episodes. What the fuck kind of crap is that? They're having budget issues so just go on ahead and cut the female cast members out. Anyway, there is a nifty petition against this happening. Even though I like the show, I think this is about more than that. These characters are some of the most positive representations of women on network TV right now. It's saying that we want to see strong, smart, cool women on TV. So if you're interested, here's the petition
